What did you do this past week?
This week I worked on the final presentation and worked on a bunch of final projects and assignments for other classes. It’s been pretty busy these last few weeks of school, so I’ve just been trying to catch up and meet deadlines.
What’s in your way?
Currently, there is not much in my way. My team has been struggling to get the favicon to display properly on our website. I am not sure exactly what the issue is, but that is the only thing we have left to do for this project.
What will you do next week?
Next week I will rehearse and record my final presentation with my group members. I will also look into fixing the favicon issue and doing one last deployment of our website. I also have quite a bit of work in my other classes since it is the last week of school so I will be juggling that this week too.
If you read it, what did you think of the The Joel Test?
I really enjoyed reading the Joel Test. I like how simple the test is and I think the explanations make a lot of sense and overall I will strive to bring this test with me wherever I go. Some things I will always do will be maintaining good source control, keeping a bug database, keeping an up-to-date schedule, and writing specs.
What was your experience of Replace Type Code with State/Strategy (227)? (this question will vary, week to week)
I think it’s interesting replacing code and moving them into separate classes or abstract interfaces. Overall I think it can make the code cleaner and more scalable. Using a combination of an abstract interface and abstract class to define default behavior is a cool technique that I will take forward with me.
What made you happy this week?
Finishing up the last phase of the project! Also, I recently toured a new apartment and finally signed a lease so I was pretty excited about that. Finally, I was really happy to celebrate my brother’s birthday this week with my family.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My tip-of-the-week is to make use of slide templates. I’ve been making a lot of presentations recently, and I think using a slide template really can add some originality to your presentation and save the hassle of trying to custom make a theme. They also can provide cool graphics and a helpful suite of icons. Slidesgo and Slides Carnival are two sites I use often when I make presentations.
