Hi everyone!
This semester I am taking CS373 otherwise known as Software Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin). I will be writing weekly blog posts about the course and the content I learn throughout the semester.
So here is a little bit more about me…
I grew up in Austin, Texas for most of my life. I love Austin for all the great food, for the unique music scene, and for all the down to earth people I have met in this city.
I currently am in my 4th year at UT Austin studying Computer Science (CS). Previously, I attended James Bowie High School where I took my first CS course at Bowie, and, well, let’s just say it was not love at first sight. I found coding to be fun and I liked the problem-solving aspect, but I ended up having a substitute teacher for that class for the entire year, and while the teacher was a sweet, old man, he knew nothing about CS and couldn't help us either. Teachers and professors make a huge difference in how much I like a course or am interested in a particular subject, so this class kinda led me astray from CS, and instead, I decided to pursue Business when I first entered college.
Once I started college, I quickly realized I liked learning more technical skills as opposed to soft skills and was ultimately persuaded to transfer into CS after speaking to several students and professors at UT. I wanted to be challenged and to have concrete skills to take with me into my career and so in my sophomore year, I took the leap and started my CS journey.
Since making that decision, I have not regretted it once. Along with having a good technical foundation for my career, CS has the perks of being a great major in terms of job opportunity and salary and is empowering because it enables me to create all kinds of things through code. I know it sounds cheesy, but programming is a powerful tool that I am grateful to know how to wield.
About this class…
I am looking forward to learning a lot during this class. I have decent experience with Javascript, Python, SQL, and web programming, through my past internships, personal projects, courses, and through building my own website but I hope to develop these skills further and become more proficient in them. I’m excited to build a dynamic website and can’t wait to see what kinds of ideas my peers and I will come up with for our project!
I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about me! Thanks for reading.
